what do you fear?

Movies

Horror films are designed to breach and take over a huge weakness in all of us; our emotions. By doing so, horror films bring the fear and anxiety out of us, but why do people like to watch scary movies? There are many theories on why people watch them. Some of them are:

1) For the thrill of being scared
2)To get away from the troubles of our daily lives
3)Proving that you could tolerate a scary film

Scream (1996)

Like other scary movies which exploit the places where we feel the safest, in the movie Scream, our "safe haven" being exploited here is under the confines of our houses. A serial killer going by the rules of scary movies is going around the neighborhood killing teens. The main character, Sidney, suspects that the serial killer has something to do with her mother's death.

One Missed Call (2008)

In the movie, One Missed Call, people recieve a voice mail from the future. Now of course this isn't your ordinary voice mail. It is actually a voice mail from the future telling when they will die. The thing is about this movie is that the fear it provides makes the characters in the movie feel that they aren't safe no matter where they are. Even a simple phone call might make us victims of fear.
The main character, Beth Raymond, is investigating the series of deaths of her loved ones and links it back to these mysterious voice mails. Throughout the movie, Beth is trying to escape her fate.

Final Destination (2000)

The fear that Final Destination plays on may make us viewers the most uncomfortable. It plays on the fear of death, and that it can come from anywhere.
